This is a full comprehensive knowledge course, not an awareness course. The blended, online portion will take approximately 3 hours to complete. It is recommended that a basic skills assessment operating a front-end, skid steer or compact track loader be completed afterwards.

If you prefer classroom training, which includes both the knowledge and basic skills portions, OR have already completed the online knowledge portion of this course and require a skills assessment, click “Training Partner” to find one near you.

Course Description

This course is intended for front-end, skid steer and compact track loader operators and provides the minimum training requirements to ensure operators have the basic knowledge and skills required for the safe operation of their loader and its attachments. It follows the guidelines, principles and recommendations established by the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Regulations, Canadian Standards Association, and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).

At the end of this course the end-user should be familiar with the front-end, skid steer and compact track loaders, their basic structural components, basic function, potential hazards while operating, and how to control those hazards. The end-user should also have a basic understanding of the proper use of the loaders attachments and potential hazards associated with them.

End-users should not assume this material alone constitutes complete training. It is expected that a workplace will apply this information as they create their own company specific Mobile Equipment Operator program as part of their company’s larger Health & Safety Management System.

Due to the different policies and procedures and equipment utilized on different work sites certain statements in this program may not apply.
