Course Description

This course is intended for Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) operators and their passengers and provides the minimum training requirements to ensure operators have the basic knowledge and skills required for the safe operation of their MEWP’s and focuses primarily on boom lifts and scissor lifts but can also be used for other types of lifts found in the workplace. It follows the guidelines, principles and recommendations established by the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Regulations, Canadian Standards Association, and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), ANSI, and OSHA.

At the end of this course the end-user should be familiar with MEWP’s, their basic structural components, basic function, potential hazards while operating, and how to control those hazards. The end-user should also have a basic understanding of the minimum requirements for fall protection of MEWP operators and passengers.

End-users should not assume this material alone constitutes complete training. It is expected that a workplace will apply this information as they create their own company specific Mobile Equipment Operator program as part of their company’s larger Health & Safety Management System.

Due to the different policies and procedures and equipment utilized on different work sites certain statements in this program may not apply.
