Confined Space Suite of Courses

Saga’s Confined Space Suite of Courses is built from the Confined Space Pre-Entry course which is the foundation of our Confined Space Suite of Training Programs. These courses are designed to introduce the learner to the basic concepts, hazards, hazard control processes and safe work procedures associated with confined and restricted spaces.

These courses include the latest updates of the Alberta OHS Act, Regulations and Code and the requirements of CSA 1006-23 Management of Work in Confined Spaces. They are intended to supplement a company’s larger Health & Safety Management System.

These confined space courses include theory and practical skills in:

  • Restricted and Confined Space Pre-entry activities.
  • Restricted and Confined Space Entry and Exit activities.
  • Tending Worker, and SCBA and SABA Safety Watch.
  • Harness and Breathing Apparatus use.
  • Non-entry Rescues from Restricted and Confined Spaces.
  • Simple and Complex Rescues from Restricted and Confined Spaces.

The ‘Confined Space Practical using Breathing Apparatus’ course is endorsed by Energy Safety Canada

Confined Space Pre-Entry with Tending Worker

Confined Space Training

This course is intended for workers who have restricted and confined spaces  at their workplaces. It provides all the information they need to identify and avoid entering a restricted or confined space and how to safely enter and work within these spaces.

Confined Space Non-Entry Rescue

This course is intended for workers who may have to perform a vertical or horizontal confined space rescue at their workplaces. It provides all the information and practical hands-on skills they need to safely rescue a co-worker from a confined space without entering.

Confined Space Pre-Entry with Tending Worker and Non-Entry Rescue

This course is intended for workers who have restricted and confined spaces  at their workplaces. It provides all the information they need to identify and avoid entering a restricted or confined space and how to safely enter and work within these spaces. The course also provides all the information and practical skills needed to perform a vertical or horizontal rescue of a co-worker without entering the confined space.

Confined Space Simple Rescue

This course is intended for workers who may have to enter and perform a confined space non-entry or simple rescue at their workplaces. It provides all the information they need to safely enter and rescue a co-worker from a non-hazardous confined space.

Confined Space Practical using Breathing Apparatus

This course is intended to give trainee’s the opportunity to apply the theory involved with entering a confined space into the practical application of entering a confined space using breathing apparatus.The course teaches the learner the responsibilities of a Tending Worker, the responsibilities of the SCBA and SABA Watch, how to use a harness, and how to use both SCBA and SABA in a controlled environment.

Basic Life Support

This course is intended for “Healthcare Professionals”, such as physicians, nurses, first responders, and clinic-staff. Please note, this is a two part course.

Intermediate First Aid

Designed for those individuals who live or work in areas where the availability of emergency medical services may be delayed and for those trying to meet Government regulations. Please note, this is a two part course.

Basic First Aid

Basic First Aid is for people who require awareness, knowledge and skills of first aid. It Includes CPR-A/AED certification. Please note, this is a two part course.

Intermediate First Aid Re-certification

The recertification class is intended for those individuals who have kept up with their knowledge and who are regularly practicing or utilizing their skills. Please note, this is a two part course.

Fall Protection

Fall Protection Training Edmonton

This course is intended for those working from height outside the platform of a Mobile Elevating Work Platform.  This course follows the guidelines and standards referenced in the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulation and Code, Canadian Standards Association, and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), ANSI, and OSHA.

Fall Protection Basic Rescue

This course is designed to introduce the learner to the basic concepts, hazards, hazard control processes and safe work procedures associated with rescuing a worker who is hanging in their harness after a fall from height.

This course is intended for those wanting to understand the how gases behave and how they’re controlled. It is designed to introduce the end-user to the basic concepts, hazards, and hazard control processes associated with atmospheric testing.

Fire Safety and Extinguisher

Fire Safety Training

This course is intended for those who want to understand fires. It discusses fire prevention, planning and suppression focusing on the use of portable fire extinguishers.

Lithium Batteries

Upon completion of this course, the trainee should understand the key elements necessary to ensure a safe work site where lithium batteries are stored or handled, an awareness of the various legislation, regulations, and standards that pertain to lithium batteries and should be familiar with the potential hazards associated with lithium batteries, and how to control those hazards.

Wildlife Awareness

At the end of this course, the end-user should be familiar with the importance and benefits of wildlife, the controls for dealing with wildlife, the difference between a grizzly bear and a black bear and how to avoid wildlife encounters, or deal with one if it occurs.

Self Contained Breathing Apparatus

This course is intended for those who may be exposed to hazards such as low oxygen, caustic, or toxic atmospheres. Respiratory Protective equipment is extremely crucial to the wellbeing of any worker who may be exposed to a hazardous environment.

Shell Scotford Breathing Apparatus Training (SCBA and SABA)

At the end of this SHELL SCOTFORD specific course, the end-user should be knowledgeable of potentially hazardous environments, the requirements for wearing breathing apparatus, the proper procedures for donning, doffing, and inspecting the apparatus as well as the proper care and maintenance of the equipment.

Powered Mobile Equipment Operator

This course is intended for Powered Mobile Equipment operators. It provides the minimum training requirements to ensure operators have the basic knowledge and skills required for the safe operation of their equipment and its attachments. The course can be applied to most PME but focuses on loaders, lift trucks (classes 1,2,3,4,5, 7 including variable reach), excavator, motor grader, and crawler dozer.

At the end of this course the end-user should be familiar with Utility Task Vehicles (UTV’s), and All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s), their basic structural components, basic function, potential hazards while operating, and how to control those hazards.
